The Spacehus concept, was a low-energy house which generates more money from the Feed-in Tariff than residents spend paying for heating and lighting. These zero carbon homes give tenants peace of mind as utilities are included in the monthly rental charge due to the minimal power and heat demand of the property being offset by the renewable energy technologies.
The homes are able to provide such a low running cost as they achieve a very high air tightness which is delivered through the specification of high quality triple glazing and extra thick 240mm insulation, meaning there is very little space heating requirement. The added inclusion of state-of-the art Nest ‘thinking thermostat’ monitors energy use when the home is empty and sends updates to the tenants smart phone or tablet device meaning energy is never wasted.
