Potland Burn Habitat Bank
Potland Burn Habitat Bank is Advance Green Futures’ first habitat bank project, located just outside Ashington. Covering 268 hectares, equivalent to around 500 football pitches, the project delivers large‑scale, long‑term biodiversity enhancement across the site.
The habitat bank forms part of a wider, landscape‑scale approach to sustainable land management and biodiversity recovery in Northumberland.
Project Overview
Formerly open‑cast mining land, the site has been restored to grassland and arable fields and will be further enhanced to create a diverse mosaic of habitats. These include species‑rich grassland, scrub, ponds, ditches and hedgerows, designed to support wildlife, strengthen ecosystems and deliver measurable Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
