Northumberland’s #RecyclingHeroes support careers in local community
Global Recycling Day is celebrated on March 18th. It aims to raise awareness of the part recycling plays in preserving the Earth’s resources.
Remondis is one of Northumberland’s recycling heroes. Based in Bedlington, the waste management and recycling company processes waste and materials throughout Northumberland and the wider North East region. They follow the best environmental practice, ensuring the highest possible levels of waste material is recovered, recycled or processed into refuse derived fuel (RDF), achieving maximum diversion from landfill.
Across the North East, they employ 108 people, with over half working at their Bedlington site. The heart of the business is their people, and Remondis invest heavily in their staff and their development, helping with retention and their happiness while at work.
Recently, they hosted a couple of visits with local schools, educating school children on recycling, business practice and highlighting the fantastic opportunities Remondis has to offer across the business. They came in to watch live CCTV of the sorting and packaging of waste on-site, saw trucks loading and had interactive sessions in the office with different departments and left with a goody bag at the end. It was a fantastic opportunity for the younger generation to learn more about recycling in practice and find out what happens to waste after it is collected.
Not only does Remondis do outreach with local schools, they are very active in recruiting graduates and apprentices in Northumberland to encourage retention and growth in this industry. There are always opportunities avaliable for people willing to learn and can provide growth and training programmes to help their employees grow within their career.
Global Recycling Day has been a great opportunity to highlight a business in Northumberland who make an important impact globally through the processing of waste into recyclable commodities, as well as making an impact in their local community.
