Starbucks Drive-Thru Confirmed for Bedlington Town Centre as Regeneration Continues
Advance Northumberland is pleased to announce plans for a brand-new Starbucks Drive-Thru as the next major phase in the ongoing regeneration of Bedlington Town Centre.
The proposed development represents another important milestone in the transformation of the town centre, supporting the long-term vision to create a vibrant, modern destination for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
The new Starbucks Drive-Thru will be positioned just off Schalksmuhle Road, covering approximately 1,800 square feet, and forms part of Phase 3 of the wider town centre redevelopment. The phase will also include a new 19,000 sq. ft B&M variety store, further strengthening the retail offering within the town.
The Starbucks Drive-Thru is expected to create around 10 new jobs, offering a mix of full-time and part-time opportunities for local residents while helping to increase footfall and encourage further investment into the town centre. Planning permission has been submitted this month with work on site scheduled to begin in Summer/Autumn this year.
Outline planning permission for the wider redevelopment of Bedlington Town Centre was secured in 2018. Since then, significant progress has been made. Two major phases have already been successfully delivered, including the opening of Aldi, and the creation of the new Market Place, which introduced four modern retail units, including Greggs, alongside six fully let residential apartments.
Northumberland County Councillor Richard Wearmouth, Cabinet member for Regeneration, said: "It's great to see yet another major retailer coming to Bedlington town centre, bringing jobs and playing its part in boosting the local economy.
"The regeneration of the town is gathering pace, with this latest phase of development, the new rail station opening nearby and the walking and cycling routes around the town progressing well."
Steven Harrison, CEO of Advance Northumberland, said: “The continued regeneration of Bedlington Town Centre is about creating a place that meets the needs of the community both now and into the future. Through Advance Northumberland’s work, two major phases have already been successfully delivered, including the opening of Aldi and the creation of the new Market Place, helping to revitalise the town centre, attract new businesses such as B&M and Starbucks, and increase activity while creating new job opportunities for local residents.
“There are further opportunities to continue regenerating the town, and we remain committed to working with partners to see this vision through and ensure Bedlington continues to grow and thrive for the community.”
The introduction of the Starbucks Drive-Thru is a key component of the wider strategy to create a thriving and sustainable town centre, delivering new retail opportunities, employment, and an enhanced experience for residents and visitors alike.
Further updates on the development will be shared as the project progresses.
