A bold remit to improve prosperity, quality of life and increase business activity

Work starts on refurbishing popular Northumberland sports centre

Newbiggin Sports and Community Centre, based in Northumberland, is receiving £1.9 million investment by Northumberland County Council, as part of their aim to upgrade Northumberland’s sports and leisure facilities.

The centre, which will be closed during construction, will undergo a remodel and refurbishment, including an advanced gym area with new weights, state-of-the-art cardio equipment and spinning studio. On top of that, the squash courts and sports hall will be upgraded.

The community hub areas in the building will also have a fresh new look. There will be new integrated furniture, feature LED lighting and the entrance to the facility will have a complete design overhaul. The centre will include a modern library, café and community hub for groups, activities, and a place for community support services. The remodel to the building will be a vibrant and contemporary, making Newbiggin Sports Centre a place where all feel welcome.

“This major refurbishment and upgrade work will breathe new life into the centre and provide a modern and much improved social and sporting experience for the local community.

“I am pleased such rapid progress is being made on this scheme, and the start of work on site means we are one step closer to bringing these fantastic new facilities to the local community.”

Cllr Jeff Watson, Chair of Advance Northumberland and cabinet member for healthy lives.
