Advance Northumberland announces New Board Members

Economic regeneration company, Advance Northumberland, has announced four new members to its Board of Directors.

Advance Northumberland have appointed Hilary Florek, Iain Slater, Adam McGhin, and Andrew Moffat CBE as Independent Non-Executive Directors to the Board.

The exciting new board appointments bring a wealth of knowledge from a variety of sectors and disciplines complementing the already established board Director group.

Hilary Florek is a strategic communications and marketing specialist with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. She is currently Chair of the Marine Management organisation, an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, a position she took up in February 2018. Prior to this she was Chairman of the Port of Tyne for three years having served previously as Deputy Chairman.  

She began her career with the Vaux Group PLC and became PR and Communications Director, a position she held till 2000 when she established her own marketing consultancy, HFPR Ltd. She is Chair of North East Access to Finance and a Trustee of the North Music Trust at the Sage, Gateshead.  She has recently joined the Board of Durham Cricket and is a Trustee of the Lawnmowers Theatre Group for young people with learning difficulties.

Iain Slater MRICS, Development Director at Hargreaves Services Plc, is a successful, commercially focused and creative property professional, with over 30 years’ experience. Extensive experience gained in land development and brownfield site regeneration throughout the UK, including housing, retail, leisure, renewables, industrial, and office schemes.

Adam McGhin, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary at Grainger Plc is a qualified solicitor in excess of 20 years, specialising in real estate, corporate and finance transactions. Adam has substantial experience in investment, property development, equity and debt capital markets transactions, and corporate governance.

And finally, Andrew Moffat CBE, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, Non-Exec Director & Port of Tyne, CEO 2008-18. Andrew has over 13 years’ experience as a member of the board, Audit, Remuneration and Finance Committees whilst at Port of Tyne and Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this he gained extensive experience in senior positions in the mobile telecommunications sector, including Strategy Director at Orange and CFO at Three UK and Italy.

He was CBI regional chair 2017-18 and regional council member 2008-19).  A well-respected member of the North East business community; North East Business Executive of the Year (2015), awarded CBE for services to UK ports and the North East regional economy (2016).

Group Executive Director at Advance Northumberland, Robin Earl said: “The new board member appointments have embodied the future direction of the business, as well as supporting the company’s ambition.

With the new appointments confirmed from 18th April 2023, the new board look forward to opportunities to meet with stakeholders in the coming weeks and months, and to continuing the Advance Northumberland’s long-standing relationships with partner organisations and members.
